Joining Ardmore First Methodist Church
A Global Methodist Congregation
We’re grateful you’re considering becoming a member of Ardmore First Methodist Church, a Global Methodist Congregation. Joining the church is more than placing your name on a roll—it’s a joyful commitment to follow Jesus Christ, grow as His disciple, and live out your faith in community.
Church membership is about belonging, growing, and serving together as part of Christ’s body.
What It Means to Join
When you join Ardmore First Methodist Church, you are making a public profession of faith and committing yourself to the life and mission of the church. These commitments are expressed through a set of historic Christian promises called membership vows.
These vows reflect a commitment to:
-
Believe in the Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
-
Trust Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
-
Ground your life in the truth of Scripture
-
Grow in holiness through God’s grace
-
Join Christ’s mission through the Global Methodist Church
-
Actively support your local church through prayer, presence, gifts, service, and witness
The Vows of Membership Explained
A Confession of Faith
Do you believe in God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit?
Membership begins with the heart of the Christian faith. We affirm belief in one God who is revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—the foundation of all Christian life and worship.
Trusting Jesus as Savior and Lord
Do you confess Jesus Christ as Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him as your Lord?
This vow is a personal “yes” to Jesus. It means receiving His forgiveness, trusting in His grace rather than our own efforts, and choosing to follow Him as the guiding authority of our lives.
Rooted in Scripture
Do you receive and profess the Christian faith as contained in the Scriptures?
As Methodists, we believe the Bible is the primary witness to God’s saving work in Jesus Christ and the foundation for Christian teaching, faith, and daily living.
A Life of Faithfulness
Do you promise, according to the grace given you, to keep God’s holy will and commandments and walk in the same all the days of your life as a faithful member of Christ’s holy church?
This vow reflects a lifelong journey of discipleship. We rely on God’s grace to shape how we live, love, forgive, and serve—seeking to reflect Christ in every area of life.
Loyal to Christ Through the Global Methodist Church
Will you be loyal to Christ through the Global Methodist Church and, joining with your brothers and sisters around the world, do all in your power to fulfill its mission?
By joining Ardmore First Methodist Church, you become part of a global movement committed to making disciples of Jesus Christ and spreading scriptural holiness across the world.
Committed to the Local Church
Will you be a faithful member of Ardmore First Methodist Church, a Global Methodist local church, doing all in your power to strengthen its ministries through your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness as Christ’s representative in this world?
This vow expresses how faith becomes active within the local church:
-
Prayers – supporting the church and its people through faithful prayer
-
Presence – gathering regularly for worship and community
-
Gifts – giving generously to support ministry and mission
-
Service – offering your time and talents in Christ’s name
-
Witness – living out your faith in word and deed in the world
